DESCRIPTION

The genus Cordyceps has to be one of the strangest fungi on the planet. There are over 600 species of unique mushroom which occur all across the globe from the Amazon basin to the Tibetan Plateau. Before it was isolated for production purpose for human consumption, it was only found by farmers, foragers and herbalist seeking the strange club like strangely  colored protrusions from the forest floor and hillsides sprouting from bug exoskeletons. Cordyceps Sinensis was one of the most widely found version of this species until Cordyceps Militaris was isolated and has now been shared by mycologists worldwide. 

Cordyceps is highly nutritious and has been utilized for millennia’s, prized for its energy producing effects on the body. There are more than 80 enzymes which are involved in many metabolic processes in the human body. It contains essential amino acids, (the building blocks of proteins) lipoproteins, peptides, essential fatty acids and sugars. The sugars or monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides and also several complex polysaccharides. Most have heard of the benefits of polysaccharides in mushrooms, also sterols, vitamin K, Vitamin E, Vitamins B2, B1 and B12 & Calcium.

There is a growing fascination with this mushroom specifically for it’s vitality increasing abilities for exercise & endurance.

So effective in fact that after 3 world records were broken within a week at the 1993 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese team was investigated for doping. Shortly after it was revealed that one of their secrets weapons was a Cordyceps elixir. Above all other mushrooms studied thus far, cordyceps has an affinity for the lungs, thereby increasing VO2 max (maximum oxygen intake) by 15%. This allows more oxygen to be utilized by the lungs, which means higher energy production and all around better performance.

Here at SUN we only use fresh organically grown Cordyceps Militaris fruiting body in our formulas. Most cordyceps are dried and coming from China, though more growers are beginning to offer this lovely mushroom grown within the United States.

Ours comes from within the US and is extracted immediately upon receiving them fresh. We extract in ethenol for 2 weeks & do a hot water bath extraction for one day before filtering multiple times & recombining to make our potent extraction.

HISTORY

Known as the zombie fungus due to it’s need to infect insect hosts to grow, they have a natural symbiotic relationship which is extraordinarily beneficial for humans who may ingest the final stage of fruiting bodies. Cordyceps use dates back at least to the beginning of (BCE) Before Current Era. Often attributed to first use in the Ayurvedic texts roughly called Yarsa(winter bug) and gumba(summer grass), in Tibetan as Yarchakunbu, which literally means ‘Yar’ for rain; ‘Cha’ for plant; 

‘Kun’ for winter; and ‘Bu’ for insect. Hence, the literal meaning of Yarchakunbu becomes 

summer plant winter insect. Traditional Chinese Medicine it was known as Chinese caterpillar fungus or “Dong Chong Xia Cao” in Chinese. Once the knowledge of it’s prowess as a virility tonic and it’s endurance enhancing benefits reached the monarchical dynasties across many lands, it was sought out and harvested specifically for the use by royalty.

It is said that they may have been introduced thanks to yaks in the Himalayas which would graze in areas where Cordyceps had fruited. When enhanced energy expressions we’re noticed, the shepherds did the same and experienced fuller lung capacity to breathe at the high altitudes of the Himalayas.
